Fruit and Vegetable Day:
Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day was explained. It is celebrated on the first Friday of April in public schools. The day was established by the Texas Legislature to promote the health benefits of fruits and vegetables and encourage students to eat more of them. Brittanie Brown informed the committee of what was done last year to meet the legislative requirement and that the day for this year would be the first Friday in April.
HB 4375 updated CPR and AED Training
HB 4375 was explained.
Nicki Holbert explained that all freshmen are given these trainings in Mrs. Turner’s Health and Wellness class. If any students move in after freshman year or need the training, they follow up on that and make sure they meet the requirement before they graduate. Ms. Wetzel said she would assist and provide resources as needed.
Relationship Under Construction
The committee from last year voted to continue using this for our secondary students. Jessica Longley taught this last year when she was a school employee. We will continue to use that program this year. Hot Topics will continue to be used with 5th graders. We are not sure if Jessica Longley or a school employee will teach it this year, but it will get covered.
Other:
Feedback from Agri-Extension Agency Anti-Vaping and Fentanyl Awareness Program -
Maybe do a shorter time frame - maybe 30 minutes instead of an hour
Good information, but may need to start in 5th grade. Some thought that by the time they get in high school, students have already made their minds up about vaping.
Next meeting will be Feb. 19.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:12.
