Henrietta Head Start is a comprehensive child development program serving children ages three to four years old and their families. It is a child-focused and family-centered program.

Overall goals of the program are to:
    Establish a supportive learning environment for children, parents, and staff.
    Recognize that the members of the Head Start community have roots in many cultures.
    Assure basic health needs
    Foster a relationships with the larger community    
    Head Start parents are encouraged to become involved in all aspects of the program.

Research confirms the value of early education for young children. Pre-K programs that support effective teaching practices have been shown to lead to important growth in children’s intellectual and social development, which is critical to their future academic success.

Pre-K programs include development in:
Language and Early Literacy Development—Listening skills, phonological awareness, and vocabulary skills
Mathematics –number concepts, shapes, and measurement
Science—concepts and processes
Social Studies—community, history, geography, and economics
Fine Arts—art, music, and dramatic play
Health and Safety
Personal and Social development
Physical development—gross and fine motor development
Technology applications

To be eligible for pre-kindergarten, a child must be four years of age on or before September 1, and must be (1) unable to speak and comprehend the English language (limited English proficient); or (2) educationally disadvantaged (eligible to participate in the National Free or Reduced-Price Lunch Program; (3) homeless, or (4) child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the U.S. or a child of a member of the armed forces of the U.S. injured or killed on active duty.
